EMBRACING IMPERFECTION: WRITING THAT SPRINGS FROM WILD IMAGINATION
Heather Swan Rosenthal & Samar Fitzgerald
Saturday & Sunday, July 19 & 20, 2008
10–12 & 2–4 (Saturday); 2–4 (Sunday)

True creativity comes from the mind unhindered by limitations. Initial inspiration is often shut down by the voice of an inner critic. The goal of this workshop is to discover and practice ways to silence that critical voice and to let our imaginations and instincts guide us through the writing process. Writers will take part in short exercises, read poems and stories looking for signs of a wild mind at work, and produce their own imagination-driven poem or “short” short.

CLASS CODE: 8B-816
Student Fee: $90

MINIATURE MADNESS: A WEEKEND WORKSHOP IN THREE GENRES
Jesse Lee Kercheval
Sat-Sun, August 9-10, 2008
1—5pm

Says Jesse “I admit it. I’m crazy – three genres in two days? But I write fiction, memoir and poetry and I want to encourage other writers to go a little mad and work in more than one genre too. To this end, I have invented a workshop that uses in-class exercises and an overnight assignment to produce tiny but whole short stories, short personal essays and prose poems.” This workshop is designed to be supportive, productive and helpful for every level or writer-beginner to advanced-and is especially suited to writers who want to explore a new genre or to shake up and revitalize their writing by taking on new challenges.

CLASS CODE: 8B-860
Student Fee: $150
